DURATION: 10 hours

This true paradise on earth, Krka National Park lies about 10 kilometers inland from old city Šibenik in Central Dalmatia. Named after the Krka River, the Park covers an area of just over 142 square km and includes two thirds of the river itself. It was proclaimed as a National park in 1985, as the 7th National Park on Croatia. Main attractions of the park are its magnificent waterfalls, canyons and stunning nature, including famous Skradinski Buk waterfall which is one of Croatia’s most famous sights. The area is exceptionally rich in endemic flora and fauna, containing 222 types of bird. Over 800 species of plant life have been identified as being present in the National Park. The watermills along the rivers and above the waterfalls, ruins of fortifications rising above the canyons, the picturesque mouth of the River Čikola above Skradinski Buk waterfall – all are specific features of the river landscape. Much of the animal life lives, unsurprisingly, in and around the waters of the Krka River which is home to different amphibian and reptile creatures. Magnificent Skradinski Buk waterfalls are a collection of 17 waterfalls that range in height by over 45 meters. We will take a boat and go on a magnificent ride to the tiny island Visovac, where was at 1445 settlement of Franciscan monks. The monastery contains large number of very-well preserved artifacts and huge library.

In this great National park you will find ruins of the former Krka hydroelectric plant and there was built the first complete electricity system in Croatia. That happened just two days after Tesla’s hydroelectric plant on Niagara Falls. Thanks to the historical importance, Krka hydroelectric plant is protected as a monument of industrial architecture.

National Park Krka also has the only hawk training center in Croatia where you can see presentations of hunting with hawks and hawk trainers’ skills.
